Interlibrary Loan

Lincoln  Students, Faculty, and Staff may request to borrow material from other libraries when  Langston Hughes Memorial Library does not own the material. Fill out the request form to request materials.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) refers to the cooperative arrangement of libraries to globally share physical and electronic resources. National and local interlibrary loan codes usually preclude libraries from borrowing and lending the following materials:

  • Books published within the last 12 months
  • Textbook and readings required for current courses
  • Material owned by Langston Hughes Memorial Library
  • Certain non-print materials

Find the information on a book you want to ILL by going to WorldCat.

InterLibrary Loan Instructions

Costs - ILL services are free of charge to all Lincoln students, faculty and staff. Prior to submitting a request, Lincoln users should check Primo, Lincoln's online public access catalog, to determine if the library owns the material.

Submitting Requests - Requests can be submitted by completing the ILL request form

Requests submitted in excess of suggested limits will be processed as time allows or according to any priority you have indicated.

In rare cases, a lending library may impose an extraordinarily high fee that may need to be discussed with the requestor before the ILL transaction is completed.

Loan Periods and Renewals - Most books received through ILL may be kept for 3 or 4 weeks. Loan instructions are provided with each item. Journal articles received do not usually need to be returned. Loan periods, renewal periods, and any restrictions on the use of loaned material are at the discretion of the lending library. Contact the ILL Office in advance of the due date to inquire about the renewal of the material. ILL materials should be returned to the Circulation department or ILL Office on or before the due date to ensure continued good relations with the lending library.

Notification and Pick-up - When requested ILL material is received or is determined to be unavailable, users are notified by telephone or email. Patrons can retrieve requested materials at the Circulation Department by presenting their valid Lincoln University Identification (ID) card.
